Ruth Brown, daughter of Mary and Basil Brownless (you figure out the name
difference!), emigrated from Hereford, England to the Annapolis Valley in Nova
Scota with her family in 1970.
Ruth left home at 18 and worked
for 10 years in Halifax offices at legal secretarial and other clerical
work before attending Dalhousie University. She had almost completed
degrees in both businss and psychology when she moved on to The
University of Western Ontario to complete a degree in occupational
therapy. She then worked for a number of years in vocational
rehabilitation before relocating to her husband's home area of
Charlotte County. There she pursued on-line insurance work while taking
coursework in special education and literacy. Ruth and her husband
relocated to Nova Scotia in 2005 and currently reside in Mahone Bay
where she is an on-line medical transcriptionist. She co-rodinated the
Mahone Bay Father Christmas Silent Auction in 2009.
Ruth's prolonged single life ended in the fall of 1997, when she collided
with Rod at a "night out for four" arranged by a friend of Rod's at the Broadway
Cafe in Sussex. "I always knew that that he was out there somewhere", she says.
Did she fall in love with the artist or the man? "Both, of course. Living with
an artist seems quite a natural thing to do when your mother is also a
successful painter.I think the delightful level of eccentricity he displays in
most activities is just due to the querky personality he was apparently born
with."
