In 2009 what approximates spring in Nova Scotia arrived April 16 when the ice completely emptied out of the rivers and the harbour. That was also the first warm day. Flowers and green grass commenced to appear a week later and temperatues of 20ºC arrived in the final week.

There are an equal number of full-time (winter) commercial retail outlets in Mahone Bay including four eateries so residents are well served throughout the year.
Nevertheless "summer" arrives when the " migratory birds" fly back into the village. Their arrival is spasmodic,  and hours irregular,  until the month of May.
