I would never expose a child to chaotic illustrations like that seen above. My maternal grandmother on my father's side was,  however,  Baptist and massive volumes of  Paradise Lost and Hurlbut's Illustrated Bible were perceived as the only correct  subjects for viewing on a Sunday afternoon. I suspect I picked up a liking for the dramatic from these two books.
